"The small Sato"

Das kleine Sato – Große Leistung und unfassbare Micro Details für kleinere Räume

We’ve designed the small Sato specifically for customers with more compact spaces. While it’s not a replica of the Western Electric 22A, the two do share certain similarities. However, the small Sato stands out with its slightly deeper cut-off and, naturally, superior resonance characteristics.

Perfectly crafted for smaller rooms, the small Sato delivers outstanding sound quality without compromise.

"The Sato horn"

The Sato Horn – A Modern Evolution of a Classic Design

The Sato horn was created in the late 1960s by Japanese designer Susumo Sato. His vision was to develop a horn slightly smaller than the Western Electric WE15A, yet capable of reproducing the lowest midrange frequencies without a cut-off. This design aimed to eliminate separation in the critical lower midrange—the foundation of musical expression.

Remarkably, the Sato horn features a slightly more linear frequency response than traditional Western Electric horns. The original design measured approximately 190 cm in length, was built for a 2” driver, and featured a 180-degree turned horn path.

To adapt the design for the Hornsolutions 666 driver, we extended the original Sato horn by over 50 centimeters. Additionally, we incorporated a fully curved neck, akin to the original Western Electric horns. This modification brings the horn to an average length of 245 cm, resulting in an even more linear frequency response than its predecessor, further enhancing its exceptional sound reproduction capabilities.

The Sato horn – a fusion of tradition and innovation for unmatched audio performance.

"The Western Electric WE66 A"

The WE66A – Compact Design with Legendary Roots

Contrary to popular belief, the WE66A horn was not developed by Western Electric. It was, in fact, designed by a French engineer and owes its name to being a scaled-down version of the iconic Western Electric 15A. At 66% of the WE15A’s size, the WE66A retains the same horn function and contour, making it a more compact homage to the original.

The Hornsolutions WE66A goes a step further by extending the original design—described by Hiraga in L’Audiophil—by more than half a meter. It culminates in a 3/4” opening, specifically designed to accommodate our 666 driver.

For us, this horn represents the perfect balance between performance and practicality. Its proportions and design make it not only a highly functional audio solution but also a piece of striking elegance.

"The Western Electric WE15 A"

The Legendary Western Electric 15A – The Mother of All Horns

Connoisseurs know exactly what the Western Electric 15A represents: the origin of modern horn technology. Developed by Western Electric engineers in the 1920s, this horn is a true legend. Original units are virtually impossible to find on the market today, and when they do surface, they are typically in poor condition. Nevertheless, these rarities command prices of around $80,000.

Back in its prime, the 15A was used behind cinema screens in American movie theaters, marking the dawn of a new era—the era of sound in film. With an impressive cut-off frequency of 51 Hz and a horn length of 438 centimeters, the 15A can easily be deployed from 80/100 Hz upward. To this day, its sound quality remains unrivaled, making it our ultimate reference model.

Our replicas are exact 1:1 reproductions, crafted according to the original Western Electric blueprints. However, unlike the originals, our replicas feature a surface coating made from resonance-optimizing materials, setting a new standard in both performance and durability.

The Western Electric 15A—timeless design, unbeatable performance.
